Ukraine President Victor Yushchenko announced on Friday that 11 people have died of H1N1 influenza in the country, and about 30,000 people are likely infected with the flu virus in 3 western provinces.
President Yushchenko has instructed the military to prepare a facility to treat a large number of patients.
The Ukraine government has decided to close all schools for a 3-week period and suspend events to be attended by many people for the time being.
Ukraine is reportedly short of masks and other medical equipment needed for preventive steps against new flu.
The government plans to spend about 12 million dollars to buy such items from other countries.
