SINGAPORE: The SAF medical team has treated 99 accident and emergency cases and performed 14 surgeries at the Pariaman Public Hospital since starting operations on Sunday. Together with staff from the Indonesian hospital, the team worked through the night to treat quake victims.
"There were several emergency cases such as shortness of breath, chest pains and fractures. We even had a patient who was almost comatose and we had to send him to another hospital for intensive care," said head of the SAF medical team, LTC (Dr) Mohamad Rosman. The team has been sharing its medical equipment with local medical staff.
Head of the SAF surgical team LTC (Dr) Colin Teo said: "Despite the increasing number of cases we have been seeing, we have been making progress. We are doing whatever we can to support the local hospital staff to deal with the large number of emergency cases."
The SAF medical team arrived on Saturday in four Republic of Singapore Air Force C-130 aircraft with medical supplies.
