By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent
A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was charged in a Juvenile Court on Wednesday with torching the Kampong Siglap Mosque along Marine Parade Road on Tuesday afternoon.
He is alleged to have caused more than $1 million damage to the property.
The fire, which broke out in the prayer room of the mosque at 1.15 pm, quickly engulfed the entire roof in flames.
About 150 people in the building, including pupils at a pre-school and worshippers, as well as some residents at a condominium nearby, were evacuated.
A man in his 50s, who fell while fleeing the fire, injured his shoulder and knee and had to be sent to Changi General Hospital.
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) said the congregation can perform their prayers at nearby mosques while the damage is being repaired.
