SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has called on the Hakka community in Singapore to draw on their quick wits and hard work to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing new world.
Speaking at the Nanyang Khek Community Guild’s 80th anniversary, Mr Lee also said the Hakka spirit of resilience and diligence must be imbued in younger Hakkas as these qualities are useful in the 21st century.
But he also stressed the need for the clan to preserve and pass on its cultural heritage so younger Hakkas know where their ancestors came from and what they stood for.
As one of the oldest established clan associations in Singapore, the Prime Minister urged the Guild to adopt new channels such as the internet to engage young Singaporeans.
