KL eyes invasion threat
Govt keeps eye out for trouble as Malaysians laugh over threat by Indonesian group
KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIANS were cracking jokes over the Internet on Wednesday about a threat by a motley group of Indonesians to invade Malaysia today, but the government prefers not to take any chances.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the national security forces have been put on alert, and the government is taking precautionary steps to watch its coastline.
National Security Council secretary Mohamed Tajudin Abdul Wahad was quoted in the New Straits Times as saying that the authorities are watching known locations for illegal landings along the 880km coastline of Malaysia's west coast.
'While we see this as a group of mad fools' rhetoric, we are not taking any chances as this involves the lives of our people,' he said.
Mr Muhyiddin also said Malaysia hoped that the Indonesian authorities would take appropriate steps to prevent any incident.
He also said that Malaysia would continue sending humanitarian aid to earthquake victims in Padang despite the invasion threat.
