Anyone plays the Age of Empire games from Ensemble Studios?

Age of Empire games Aoe_fuchs

Age of Empires is a series of computer video games developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios. The first title of the series was Age of Empires, released in 1997. Since then, seven titles and three spin-offs have been released. The titles are historical real-time strategy games, and their gameplay revolves around two main game modes: random map and campaign. The games are set amidst historical events. Age of Empires focused on events in Europe and Asia, spanning from the Stone Age to the Iron Age; the expansion game explored the formation and expansion of the Roman Empire. The sequel, Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, was set in the Middle Ages, while its expansion focused on the Spanish conquest of Mexico. The subsequent three games of Age of Empires III explored the early modern period, when Europe was colonizing the Americas and several Asian nations were on the rise.

I just finished the tutorial and wow! Its really good strategy game and i enjoyed it, strategy isnt my favourite genre of game but i think Age of Empires III is pretty good overall. But very time consuming, took me over an hour to finish the tutorial!

This game has only one flaw is that Western history is covered but what about Asia?

Maybe they were not having that in mind at first... But Genghis Khan was covered.

I only played Age of Empires 1 but then after visiting this site I planned on getting AOE 2 and 3.

I at first like AOE1 and =D's comments I thought this game was boring but Tale's enthusiastism got me curious.... And I brought the full expansion pack.

I was amazed. This is much better than a history text book.

Maybe they were not having that in mind at first... But Genghis Khan was covered.

I only played Age of Empires 1 but then after visiting this site I planned on getting AOE 2 and 3.

I due to =D's comments I thought this game was boring but Tale's and REBEL's enthusiastism got me curious.... And I brought the full expansion pack.

I was amazed. This is much better than a history text book or a boring history lesson.

When I played the campaigns in AOE2. I felt like I was sitting along side Joan of Arc and fighting the british! My heart broke when I saw that She ended up burnt at the stake. I though I would get a rescus mission type scenario. but I got curious and when to look up on french history. Joan was indeed burnt at the stake. Sad huh? Betrayed by the Dauphin or King of France who owed her his throne and also the revival of a France eaten by years of war....

"We fight for the Maid of Orleans"

Most importantly I now understand the fight between the Middle East and Westerners today. So this "fight" harkens back to ancient times. This game has history inaccuracies but it's mostly true. So the middle east people and Muslims did had conflicts with their Christian foes in ancient times... It appears that the Westerners seemed to be the ones who started the Crusades it seems.

The only Eastern campaign was that of Genghis Khan.

One of the campaigns I liked most was El Cid, a spanish hero from Valencia. He was a great man who got Christian and Muslim soldier to fight for him and take down his enemies.

Also in the Conquerer expansion pack I now see the mistakes of humanity and more. The extinction of the Aztecs the destruction of their culture. The spanish were pretty evil to pretend to be the Aztec "Gods" to deceive them of the gold. The sad thing is....
after this campaign in the game, according to history, Cortez the leader of the Spanish troops returned to find an empire weakened by Malaria and then took the city down, ending the Aztec Empire and culture forever.....

The even more interesting scenerios were the Battle of the Conquerors involving major battles in history. From the rise of the Vikings, The battle of Hastings, to the Battles between Korea and Japan. Hideyoshi's rise to Shogunate was also one battle to play.

One of the battles that preceded the middle AGe in AOE 2 was Attila the Hun. We get to play as him and feast on a dying Rome. Bwahaha ha ha ha

4.5 Stars out of 5. And excellent game. Parents should get this game if you want your child to be interested in history. But for Asians this game is not too good if you want your child to be interested in his native culture. That's the only flaw.

Sounds like this game is a lot more fun than what =D described.

I also thought that this game was boring too. I will try to find it.... and I will give more comments.
