What happened to RTS games today?

I was wondering what happened to all of the Real Time Strategy Games out there. Where have they gone?

What you mean real time strategy games?

You dun know what RTS games are? No kidding? I think this genre must have faded out so much that it has been forgotten...

A RTS game is a type of game where you get to control a group or faction and produce units to fight enemies some what like a general planning his troops.

Here one example I know of...


I believe Tales or REBEL would find this familar.

What do you mean by no kidding?

Well, this genre of games has been around for 12 over years. So I was thinking that everyone would be aware of it. It was a very popular game genre when it came out. Games like Command and Conquer, Age of Empires, Starcraft are RTS games.

But however something happened to the PC game genre and it was like faded..

But the genre seemed to have like not as popular based on what I believe.
Recent games seemed to go in favour of "no need to think so much" first person shooters on the Xbox rather than the resource collecting or brain teasing RTS games of yesterday.

What does anyone else think?

Well it's those strategy games where you like the "God" and control your units to fight your opponents. It's like you have a god eye view of the battle field.

Just like Tendou said, this genre has been very popular for a decade or two.

I've played some games like Ogame. That's really it. I only play FPS games.

Are you kidding me?

Real Time Strategy has been one of the major types of games on PC!How could you not know about it?

Though, on topic, there has been very little RTS coming out as of late.

StarCraft 2

that's all i more or less remember is upcoming.

I see the genre is still alive. And now when the PC's newest upgrades are here. I think we could see it return again in favor of FPS[first person shooters.]

Hmm well the slump of PC in the late 2000s and the rise of Xbox was the cause if I remember and observed. The PC was losing out...

However now PCs are evolving more powerful graphics than the Xbox if I was correct. I think those PC games could return once more.
